A Hidden Treasure

Downtown Burlington is actually filled with some fabulous clothing stores that you would maybe pass by at first sight.
My favourite dress store right now in the downtown core is called Studio. It's the smallest store, but it has some great one of a kind designer finds! And the best place in the store is their sale rack... you can find the cutest dresses for super cheap and you know no one else will have it.
Also, vintage shops and thrift stores are also some good places to find some awesome pieces. Whether you're looking for home furnishings (I bought some excellent old fashioned mugs recently at a thirft store called Talize in Stoney Creek!) or some retro party dresses, you can make them brand new again. If it's a size too big or too small just take them to a tailor to accomodate your size and then you have a totally new piece that no one will have. Someone's trash is another person's treasure!

The Most Fashionable Television show goes too...

I think it's clear to a lot of people that know me that my favourite television series is Sex and the City, which can also be given an award for the most fashionable television show. Well in my eyes it can be!
Although some of the outfits can be questioned, most of the time I just wish I could live in New York City, so I could wear half of the clothes Sarah Jessica Parker's famous character, Carrie Bradshaw, wears on the daily in the show.
Now I'm not specifically saying that New York City is the place to go to be confident about wearing the clothes you always dreamed of wearing out in public because no matter what you wear you can pull off as long as you feel sexy and confident wearing it out. It's all up to you.
Don't be afraid to strut your stuff in some amazing outfits you have hiding in the back of your closet for a special day because everyday is a good day to break out it out. Life is short children! So you can thank Carrie Bradshaw and the wardrobe people of Sex and the City because their the inspirations.
A little tip for living the New York high fashion lifestyle though ...
The website mentioned in the Sex and the City Movie by Carrie Bradshaw's assistant, Louise (Jennifer Hudson) , Bag Borrow or Steal is actually the most amazing site to rent fabulous designer goods that include handbags, jewelry, sunglasses and watches. You have to check it out for yourselves to believe it! Go to bagborroworsteal.com for more details and have fun renting!

A New Season means a New Wardrobe!

So it's finally summer time, which means a new wardrobe is about to emerge this season! Sandals, short shorts, skirts, tanks and bikinis will begin to see the light of day as the upcoming summer months become hotter and longer.
One of my most anticipated wardrobe items that will make this summer hot are gladiator sandals. Now I'm not being cocky by saying the one's that I currently purchased at fashion savvy outlet, Winner's, are what's putting a cork in every fashion critics mouth, but the piece itself! I've always wanted them and luckily I was able to get them at such a decent price. My pair are flats, but gladiator sandal heels are also a hot item to throw on for when you're going out for some drinks with the girls too! (Is anyone thinking of the black Dior gladiator heels that Sarah Jessica Parker strutted in SATC the Movie? So hot!)
Don't hold back this summer with your outfits, ladies, because I have a feeling this summer it's not just the temperature that will be getting hot this year!

Who's your fashion icon?

We all look at the world as our oyster because we have the freedom to do whatever we want in life and having the ability to do whatever we want in life means we can also squeeze all the good stuff out of it like fashion. There are billions of people walking around every corner of the world with their own individual style although many can argue that no one is original anymore. That may be a little true, since we rely on our fashion icons to do some of the style pondering for us if we are fresh out of ideas.
Magazines, television and advertising are our main sources of fashion ideas and maybe fashion ideas turned icons. The more we see that one person wearing something we always seem to like, the more we will go to them to expand our style.
I do not want to stress out every person in the world because fashion icons are not always someone seen in the public eye. We could emulate style from our friends, our friends friend, and family too, so the possibilities are endless for our fashion to keep growing.
Some of the more well known people that I like to get fashion ideas from to add to my own personal style are:
Sarah Jessica Parker
Whitney Port
Erin Lucas
Leighton Meester
Rachel Bilson
The main thing is determining your own style. Fashion icons are there to give you ideas and inspirations about what you could add to your style and/or wardrobe. No one likes a copycat.

Fashion Dilemmas

Going overboard on outfits is one of my biggest fears that I constantly try to avoid at all costs.
We all want to wear the perfect blend of the hot apparel, the amazing shoes and the right amount of accessories. But how much is too much?
Sometimes you can just depend on a cute dress and the perfect compatiable shoes to seal the deal, but accessories are always where I get stumped. You don't want to look too overdone by piling on necklaces, bracelets, rings and headbands or people will start looking at you as if you had two heads, but really their thinking, that girl is on crack.
Guys have it easy in this area too. When getting ready for the day or going out at night, their biggest question is probably going to be, what cologne should I wear (if they have more than one) or belt or no belt? Not exactly a test to figure out their I.Q. and they most likely will not be put under the microscope as much as women are unless they pick a really bad cologne.
The KISS method is what I like to use as my reference so I never go overboard with my outfit choices or another easy solution is going to your girlfriends or boyfriend for their opinion.
What about certain occasions though? You want to look effortlessly fashionable, but not too fashionably inappropriate that it just doesn't coordinate with the occasion.
Job interviews for example. Some jobs are obvious for how you should appear to the employers if you want to get hired, but others are up in the air. I have a job interview with a jean store, but I can't figure out if I should go very classic business, like a straight work pant, or go in nice jeans that I bought from the store and balance it out with a nice top and accessories.
I think, in situations where you're left in fashion limbo like mine, you can go right in between. Although it's a jean store, it's still a trendy and recognized store that I would need to look visually appealing for. I casual yet cute dress with a headband or a necklace would look very nice without being overdone aka effortlessly fashionable.
